Manna Soup Kitchen named an Enterprise Zone Contribution Project

Manna Soup Kitchen has been approved as an Enterprise Zone Contribution Project by the Colorado Economic Development Commission (EDC), October 15th.  This designation allows any donor contributions at $250 or more to be eligible for a 25% state tax credit on cash donations, and a 12.5% state tax credit on in-kind donations such as professional services.

Manna met eligibility criteria because they provide meals to the homeless, under employed and unemployed as well as job training in the field of culinary arts and food production. Manna also provides numerous supportive services to help people meet their basic needs (food bank referrals, tooth extractions, thrift store vouchers, showers, and laundry services) and improve their life situation.

The State Enterprise Zone Tax Credit program to assist economically distressed areas of the state and nonprofit projects can be eligible for designation if they work to improve economic conditions in eligible areas.  In Southwest Colorado, all of Montezuma, San Juan, and Dolores Counties are designated enterprise zone areas.  La Plata County and Archuleta Counties have some areas that are not considered distressed, and thus not included. New boundaries have been approved and go into effect on Jan. 1, 2016.

A list of eligible Enterprise Zone projects and program information is available online at www.scan.org or by calling the Region 9 Economic Development District at 970-247-9621.
